Apicoectomy & Root Canal Revision Surgery
Root canal treatments are an excellent way to treat dental pain and eliminate infection arising from a tooth. However, there are times where, even after excellent root canal treatments, subsequent infection or persistent infection can cause continued inflammation and pain.
Luckily, the recurrent infection is usually isolated to the area just beyond the tip of the tooth's root (apical region). Apicoectomy is a surgical procedure designed to remove this root tip (apex) along with the infection-tissue. This has been shown to be effective in treating the issue, as long as the tooth is not fractured.
When performed by our surgeons, it can be highly successful in preventing loss of teeth which would otherwise need to be extracted.
